April 2011

Despite an exhaustive search, the BLT Board of Directors was unable to
find a director for
An Ignorant Man, the winner of our 2010 New Play
Competition.  And after gauging the response of our patrons to previous
winning plays (overall, relatively cool), the Board regretfully decided not to
pursue the matter further.  Since multiple scheduling conflicts made the
presentation of a substitute play on the same or later dates impractical, the
decision was made to simply cancel the May production.  In return, we will
allow our season ticket holders to attend our summer musical,
Annie, at no
additional cost.  (Season subscribers: Click
here for more information.)

We regret not being able to produce the winning full-length play, as has
been our practice since inception of the New Play Competition in 2004.
Nonetheless, we congratulate its playwright, Richard Manley, on his
success in having
An Ignorant Man proclaimed to be the best of the 100
full-length plays submitted to our panel of judges.  His name and those of
the one-act and short play winners will be added to the permanent plaque
on display at the theater, and all three will be acknowledged on our
website. We wish them the best of luck in their future playwriting
endeavors.

Our next offering for 2011 will be our third annual “Broadway Cabaret”
fundraiser, June 23-26.
